Minister Delgersaikhan Borkhuu met with Ms. Sudeshna Ghosh Banerjee, Regional Director for Infrastructure for East Asia and the Pacific at the World Bank, on May 28, 2026. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on ongoing and future cooperation projects in Mongolia’s road and transport sector.

At the outset of the meeting, Minister B. Delgersaikhan expressed his appreciation to the World Bank’s continued cooperation and support rendered to Mongolia’s transport sector, which plays an important role in the country’s economic and social development.

The parties discussed the implementation progress of the World Bank-financed MTCLIP project. Under the project, a heavily used section of the national road network is planned to be rehabilitated and upgraded, including 368 kilometers of paved roads and bridges at 7 locations, with a total length of 876 meters. The Minister noted that preparations are underway to commence the main construction works within this year.

The two sides exchanged views on the project to expand the Ulaanbaatar-Lun road into a six-lane road, which is considered as top priority project of the Government of Mongolia.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in the civil aviation sector. In particular, Minister Delgersaikhan noted that Mongolia plans to expand and modernize airports in Khovd, Umnugovi, Khuvsgul and Bayan-Ulgii province centers, which are expected to receive international direct flights in the future.

Representatives of the World Bank indicated the readiness of the bank to consider transport infrastructure projects in Mongolia once the certain conditions are met. They further emphasized that the cooperation and support of the Ministry of Finance of Mongolia on the proposed projects are greatly important in order to begin actual assessment and due diligence.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and expanding cooperation in Mongolia’s transport sector.
