Mongolia, EBRD Discuss Major Road Infrastructure Projects

State Secretary of Mongolia’s Ministry of Road and Transport M. Bayarmagnai met with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Resident Representative Jahan Shamsiev to discuss ongoing and future cooperation in the transport sector.

The Mongolian side highlighted the successful implementation of the Ulaanbaatar-Darkhan highway project, which has reached 98.4% completion with EBRD support.

Both sides also discussed plans to expand and modernize the Choir-Khushig Valley road into a four-lane highway, a strategic corridor linking Asia and Europe. Mongolia expressed interest in cooperating with the EBRD on project studies, design, and financing.

In addition, Mongolia proposed working with the EBRD on a 164.5-km paved road project connecting Ulaangom and Baruunturuun in Uvs province. The EBRD welcomed the proposal and indicated readiness to consider cooperation following official requests and internal approvals.
