Minister of Road and Transport B. Delgersaikhan met on April 21, 2026, with Richard L.Buangan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Mongolia.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the road and transport sector, with a particular focus on civil aviation, railway, and maritime transport. They reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and programs and exchanged views on opportunities for further collaboration.

Minister B. Delgersaikhan highlighted the importance of the Open Skies Air Transport Agreement signed between Mongolia and the United States in 2023, noting that the agreement has created significant opportunities to support economic growth, promote tourism, and increase passenger movement between the two countries.

Within the framework of this agreement, United Airlines operated scheduled flights between Mongolia and the United States via Japan during the summer season of 2025. The Minister also noted that the airline has received approval and secured flight schedules to begin its 2026 seasonal operations on April 30.

The Minister expressed appreciation for the advisory services, technical assistance, and support provided by the United States in preparing Mongolia’s civil aviation sector for international audit inspections. The parties also discussed future cooperation aimed at improving the international competitiveness of Mongolia’s civil aviation sector, including support for crew training and fleet modernization of Mongolian air carriers.

In the railway sector, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in capacity-building and expressed interest in continuing collaboration on locomotive procurement, as well as the supply, maintenance, and servicing of rolling stock equipment.

The Minister further emphasized the positive outcomes of bilateral cooperation in the maritime transport sector, highlighting efforts to enhance international maritime risk assessment and vessel monitoring.

He noted that such cooperation plays an important role in improving the safety of vessels registered in Mongolia and ensuring their compliance with international standards. In this regard, he expressed Mongolia’s interest in further strengthening cooperation with the United States, including continued support from the U.S. Embassy and relevant organizations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Richard L.Buangan reaffirmed his commitment to actively cooperate in expanding bilateral relations in the road and transport sector and effectively advancing joint projects and programs.
