Meeting held to discuss a new project with the World Bank

On March 5, 2026, Minister Delgersaikhan Borkhuu met with the World Bank team headed by Mr. Taehyun Lee, World Bank Country Representative to Mongolia, to discuss potential cooperation on the Ulaanbaatar-Lun 6-lane road construction project, a heavy traffic section of the key route connecting central and western provinces with Ulaanbaatar.

The Minister introduced the Government’s plan to expand and modernize the Ulaanbaatar–Lun road as part of the Presidential Decree on “Re-establishing Kharkhorum City” (2022) and the Government Action Program for 2024–2028. The project aims to upgrade the corridor to a six-lane road to accommodate increasing traffic and enhance safety.

Traffic volume on this route has increased significantly in recent years in connection with tourism and economic activities, resulting in heavy traffic congestion during the summer vacation season and holidays, highlighting the urgent need for expansion and modernization.

According to the Ministry, the feasibility study and detailed engineering design for the project have been completed, making it ready for implementation. The Minister emphasized that the new highway will be constructed along a new alignment, minimizing land acquisition, resettlement, and impacts on citizens’ properties.

The World Bank team expressed readiness to review the project documentation and explore opportunities for cooperation, noting that the project holds significant importance for Mongolia’s economic development, regional connectivity, and transport infrastructure modernization.
