Minister Delgersaikhan Paid an Official Visit to Japan

Minister of Road and Transport, Mr. Delgersaikhan Borkhuu, paid an official visit to Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. During the visit, the Minister held high-level meetings with Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Iwao Horii, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Mr. Yasuyuki Sakai, and President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Dr. Akihiko Tanaka.

Discussions focused on deepening the Mongolia–Japan strategic partnership, cooperation in transport, logistics, and infrastructure development. The expansion project of “Chinggis Khaan” International Airport, one of the icons for Mongolia-Japan friendship and relations, was the primary focus of this visit. Two sides discussed accelerating feasibility studies, financing arrangements, project timelines, operational management, and the introduction of international standards in airport safety and passenger services.

The Minister Delgersaikhan also proposed temporarily utilizing the “Buyant-Ukhaa” International Airport, a former main airport for Ulaanbaatar, for domestic flights during the expansion period to ease operational pressure at “Chinggis Khaan” International Airport. The proposal included exploring joint management arrangements and load-sharing mechanisms between the two airports.

The visit also included meetings with Mitsubishi Corporation, Oriental Consultants Global, airport infrastructure companies, and aviation training institutions to explore broader cooperation in airport expansion, transport connectivity, and human resource development. Furthermore, the delegation conducted site visits to Haneda International Airport in Tokyo, including its passenger terminals and cargo terminal facilities, to study airport management systems, automated passenger services, logistics organization, accessibility infrastructure for persons with disabilities, and integrated urban connectivity models.
