Minister Delgersaikhan Borkhuu met with representatives of Austrian railway companies to explore opportunities for collaboration in Mongolia’s rapidly growing railway sector.
Minister Delgersaikhan highlighted that Mongolia has built approximately 1,000 kilometers of railway over the past four years and is now currently starting the construction of the Bagakhangai-Khusig Valley 100km branch railway line bypassing Ulaanbaatar city to divert heavy railway traffic thus helping to reduce city traffic congestion.
He also emphasized the need for international expertise and technology, particularly in sand removal technologies, due to frequent sand storm disruptions in the Gobi region. The Minister further expressed interest in learning from Europe’s experience in building comfortable, well-organized train stations, terminals and implementing LRT systems in densely populated urban areas.
With Mongolia new to electric public transportation, he underlined the importance of knowledge-sharing and investment partnerships for the successful implementation of the LRT project.
The Austrian side expressed strong interest in the collaboration and affirmed their readiness to be a reliable partner, noting that future cooperation would be coordinated through the Austrian Embassy’s representative office in Beijing. The sides agreed to further exchange relevant information through diplomatic channels.
