Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai met with Premier of the Peoples Republic of China Li Qiang today in Harbin, where they signed an intergovernmental agreement to connect railways at the Gashuun Sukhait-Gantsmod border checkpoints. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister made the following statement:
“Dear fellow Mongolians and esteemed investors worldwide,
I am pleased to announce, that we have successfully signed an agreement with the Government of China to establish a railway connection at our Gashuun Sukhait-Gantsmod border checkpoints. This is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen regional trade and infrastructure.
I am extending my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Government of Mongolia to President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, Members of the Mongolian Parliament, other political party leaders, the working groups, and other experts who have contributed to this achievement. I also want to express my deep gratitude to the Government of China, Premier Li Qiang, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and the embassies of both countries for their cooperation, which made this agreement possible.
The first railway agreement between Mongolia and China was signed in 1955, connecting Zamyn-Uud and Erlian. Since then, a second railway initiative was launched in 2004, and we have held over 60 meetings to advance our shared goals. Today, we are marking this historical achievement.
According to our prediction, coal exports could increase to 165 million tons annually, an additional 1.5 billion USD in exports. It will further grow our Chinggis Fund’s savings account and GDP per capita to 10,000 USD.
Lastly, I want to say that the Government of Mongolia will always prioritize the national interest in all its endeavors.
May Mongolia continue to prosper under the eternal blue sky.”
