Mr. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, President of Mongolia, is currently paying a state visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan at the invitation of Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic Uzbekistan.
Today, on June 24, 2024, the sides signed several bilateral documents and among them, two intergovernmental agreements in the transport sector, namely, Air Services Agreement and the International Road Transport Agreements were signed by Ms. Battsetseg Batmunkh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Mr. Ilkhom Makhkamov, Minister of Transport of Republic of Uzbekistan.
The air services agreement creates favorable legal environment for development of bilateral aviation relations including opening of direct flights between the two countries, expansion of flight network, increase of passenger and cargo traffic flow, promotion of tourism, and will greatly contribute to overall mutual trade and economic exchange.
The trade and freight turnover between Mongolia and Uzbekistan is mostly carried out by road transport and the formal entering of the international road transport agreement will provide favorable legal conditions for carriers of both countries to operate not only between Mongolia and Uzbekistan but transit to other countries in the region such as Central Asian countries and beyond to Middle East and Europe.
Furthermore, the two countries have agreed to focus on establishing a road transport link through China which actually runs from Istanbul, Turkey to Urumqi in China. The corresponding section of this route spans 4172 km from Tashkent, Uzbekistan through Almaty, Kazakhstan, the port of Khorgos, Urumqi, China to Bulgan border port of Mongolia. This route is over 1100 kilometers shorter than the route through the Russian Federation.
