State Secretary of the Ministry of Road and Transport Development, S. Batbold, met with Giovanna Piccarreta, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Mongolia, to discuss the establishment of an air and road transport agreement with Italy.

Batbold highlighted Mongolia's recent achievements in international road transport, including the signing of intergovernmental agreements with Slovakia, Poland, and Germany. He expressed Mongolia's interest in facilitating the establishment of an intergovernmental agreement on international road transport, noting that the draft agreement has already been submitted.

Regarding air transport, Mongolia is now legally able to operate direct flights to 155 destinations in 44 countries. S. Batbold expressed the Ministry's commitment to continuing cooperation with Italy in the field of air traffic agreements and aims to finalize the draft agreement in the near future.

The meeting also discussed potential investments in dry ports, particularly in Zamiin-Uud, and future projects. S. Batbold highlighted the Ministry's plans to collaborate with the UN and related organizations to establish a humanitarian aid response center and warehouse at the "Buyant-Ukhaa" international airport, drawing inspiration from the successful model in Brindisi, San Vito, Republic of Italy.

Ambassador Piccarreta expressed support for increasing trade turnover between the two countries and establishing direct flights. As 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Italy, both sides emphasized the possibility of concluding an agreement between the governments on road and air transport relations.
