The Government of Mongolia has announced 2023-2024 as the “Welcome to Mongolia” years. In this context, the MIAT-Mongolian Airlines company has started flights to 8 local destinations and today /June 30, 2023/ the company made its first flight on Ulaanbaatar-Khovd route.
With MIAT flights to provincial centers of Khuvsgul, Khovd, Uliastai, Ulaangom, Dalanzadgad, Choibalsan, Altai and Ulgii, it creates more accessible and cheaper travel to the country’s main tourist regions.
It takes around 22-25 hours by car to travel to provinces such as Khovd and Bayan-Olgii, which are more than 1500 kilometers from the capital, then having a flight will save 20 times the time by traveling for 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Incidentally, on July 7, 1956, Mongolia started its first regular passenger and postal flight with the AN-2 airplane, which is considered the historical beginning of today's National Air Carrier-MIAT Mongolian Airlines. The company operated local flights until 2008.
