The Air Services Talks between Mongolia and the Republic of Korea was held in Seoul, Korea on 2-3 August 2021 in accordance with the Air Services Agreement concluded between the two countries on 23 October 1991. The talks are also held for the purpose of implementation of the Mongolian Government Resolution No. 162 of 2021 on “Measures to be Taken for the Development of Air Transport and Tourism”.
From the Mongolian side the talks were headed by Mrs. Ch. Munkhtuya, Director-General of Civil Aviation Policy Implementation and Coordination Department of the Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia and by Mr. Yun Jin Wang, Director of Aviation Policy Department of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea from the Korean side. The two sides exchanged information on the measures taken by the respective governments and by the State Emergency Commission during the Covid-19 pandemic response efforts, the issues related to the travel restrictions taken by both countries in air transport sector, resumption of scheduled flights, and flight regulation actions in cases of Covid-19 positive passengers. The outcome of the talks has been formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement between the two sides would allow during the summer schedule of IATA 2022, the designated airlines by the two sides (MIAT-Mongolian Airlines, Korean Air and Asiana) on Ulaanbaatar-Seoul route will be entitled 5,000 seats per week from June to September and within this capacity, Mongolian side will operate 20 flights and the Korean side will operate 18 flights. During the months from October to May, under the capacity of 2500 seats per week, the Mongolian side will operate 11 flights and the Korean side will operate 9 flights as before.
In connection with the opening of the Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Khushig Valley, the sides have exchanged views on conducting security audit of the new airport and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea agreed to implement it as soon as possible by examining the regulations for Covid-19.
